Carla Lanca

Biography:

Carla Lança is an independent researcher based in Abu Dhabi since August 2023. She was an Assistant Professor at Lisbon School of Health Technology (ESTeSL) in Portugal for 12 years. Carla has graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Orthoptics and obtained her PhD in Public Health in 2014. At ESTeSL Carla lectured on several topics, such as myopia, binocular vision, strabismus, amblyopia, low vision, public health, epidemiology, and research methods to undergraduate students in the Orthoptics and Vision Sciences BSc programme. She was a research Fellow at the Singapore Eye Research Institute between 2018 and 2021. At the time she was involved in the clinical coordination of the Growing Up in Singapore Towards Healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) myopia study (9-year visit). She supervises Master and PhD students, and she is on the editorial board of several peer reviewed journals. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and presented at several international conferences. Her areas of research expertise include myopia, binocular vision, and strabismus.
