Gabi Steenbekkers graduated as an optometrist from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, The Netherlands, in 1999. He brings over 27 years of clinical experience in private practice and has hands-on experience in establishing and developing a myopia management practice.
Since September 2023, he has been working as Global Medical Advisor – Myopia within the Global Medical and Professional Affairs team at EssilorLuxottica. Gabi is a member of the International Myopia Institute (IMI) Ambassador Group and a Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA).
Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience with a wide range of myopia control interventions, including orthokeratology, custom-made lenses, and dedicated myopia management lenses. He has a strong interest in innovation and the development of new solutions to support effective myopia management.
Driven by a strong commitment to patient care and social responsibility, Gabi completed an optometry internship with the South African Red Cross Air Mercy Service and in rural areas around Durban, South Africa. He is passionate about supporting eye care professionals and helping future generations maintain healthy eyes and long-term visual outcomes.
