Prof. Alvina Pauline Santiago

Prof. Alvina Pauline Santiago is a pediatric ophthalmologist who has been teaching for more than 25 years, at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of the Philippines College of Medicine.  She is currently the Division Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in this department, as well as the Section Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Medical City and the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines.  She has recently edited a textbook on Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus: A Comprehensive Guide to Diagnosis and Management, and wrote a monograph on Prescribing Eyeglasses in Children.  She has several other journal publications on various topics including a meta-analysis on atropine for myopia.  She obtained her medical school diploma from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and completed her Residency in Ophthalmology at the Philippine General Hospital, University of the Philippines Manila. She obtained her subspecialty training from the Jules Stein Eye Institute in University of California, Los Angeles, and the Children’s Eye Care Center in New Jersey in the USA.  She is currently a Board of Trustee of the certifying board in ophthalmology in the Philippines—the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology.
